There is a Way...Sharon's Way

Please take a moment to get to know Sharon

Her story is the reason why we do what we do...Sharon's Way

Sharon Elaine Gabor began her life in 1970 under the watchful care of Pediatric Nurses.  Sharon was born with an infection that caused her throat to swell so severely that at just days old she had to have an emergency Tracheotomy to allow her to breathe.  She spent the better part of her first month of life as a tiny patient in the hospital.

In her early teens, Sharon was diagnosed with Lupus.  She would battle the disease and the daunting regimen of Chemo and Steroid therapy throughout her teens, spending countless days hospitalized during treatments and countless more recovering from them.  It was during this time Sharon learned the value of the relationships she would build with the nurses who cared for her.  Finally, blessed with remission, Sharon lived relatively free of the constant medical care that had become such a routine part of her life.

Sharon pursued a career in business working for large corporations in their real estate divisions but realized her interest and natural talent gravitated toward computer technology.  She studied Information Security and became a Security Specialist at Nabisco.  Sharon excelled in her position and when her company was purchased by Kraft Foods, she played an integral role in the transition of the many information technology systems from Nabisco to Kraft.  Sharon enjoyed many accolades and promotions during her long and happy career.

In 2005, Sharon was diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Her life would once again be defined by the medical treatments she was receiving.  She met so many wonderful medical professionals and developed strong bonds with the nurses who cared for her.  With some, she developed fast friendships that would last for the rest of her life.  With others, she enjoyed a casual nurse patient relationship that was built on trust and respect.  Sharon's life was touched by some of the most amazing people on earth, and we know their lives were touched by her.

In March of 2007, Sharon Gabor lost her battle with cancer.  She will be missed by her family and friends and the army of nurses who were privileged to have known her.  We will never forget her.
